Iconic American Sandwich Chain ‘Firehouse Subs’ Is Heading Down Under

American sandwich chain Firehouse Subs is set to launch in Australia, with the first location expected to open in Queensland later this year.

Retail Food Group (RFG), has entered into an agreement with a subsidiary of Restaurant Brands International (RBI) to bring Firehouse Subs down under.

RFG has an impressive portfolio of cafe and fast food chains under their belt, including Gloria Jean’s, Donut King, Brumby’s Bakery and Crust.

RFG’s boss, Matt Marshall, believes Firehouse Subs will be able to compete with market heavyweight Subway to become the No. 2 branded sandwich store in Australia.

“I am convinced that Australians have never tried anything like the quality and flavour of Firehouse Subs. This is a brand that is all about the highest quality sandwiches with exceptional service. We couldn’t ask for a better partner than RBI, bringing global scale and new market entry expertise,” Marshall said.

While the first Firehouse Subs is set to open in Southeast Queensland in late 2025, there are plans to open a total of 165 restaurants across Australia over the next decade.

Firehouse Subs was founded in Florida in 1994 by two brothers and former firefighters, Chris and Robin Sorensen. The sandwich chain is best known for its premium meats and sandwich fillings.
