Fans Outraged As Teen K-Pop Star Publicly Apologises For Weight Gain After Cruel Backlash

Fans of much-loved K-pop star, Jang Ye Eun, have rallied around the teenager after she issued a public apology for gaining weight.

Jang Ye Eun, best known by her stage name J, is a member of South Korean girl group Stayc.

Chatter regarding the 19-year-old’s weight began after a recent live performance, in which some felt the star appeared slightly ‘curvier’ than usual.

J took to social media to update fans on her life following a workout, and she took a moment to acknowledge the online chatter.

'To be honest, I saw the fancam and I'm sorry I didn't maintain my figure well,' she wrote.

'I'm going to go on a diet a little. I'll do it slowly while eating good food. Hehe.'

J reassured fans that she plans to make changes gradually and maintain a healthy approach.

Fans flooded the teenager with messages of love and support and highlighted the unattainable beauty standards in South Korea.

“Feel so bad for her. The apology culture is terrible. Poor girl apologising for being healthy...,” one fan wrote.

“That’s so unnecessary. Like, she is perfect how she is - no need to apologise,” another said.

It’s reported that nearly 25 per cent of women aged 19 to 29 in South Korea have undergone plastic surgery.
