An Arnotts spokesperson has confirmed that “Jatz contains Malt while Savoy contains Golden Syrup.”
In an online Reddit thread, one user said, “Thank you all for removing one of my life’s great unsolved mysteries.”
Despite being a very minor difference, it is clear that depending on where you’re from, you probably have a preference for one or another.
One Reddit user has said, “I prefer the texture of Jatz over Savoy.”
Another added, “Anyone who says they’re the same biscuit is a liar. They’re so different in texture. Savoy supremacy every day.”
Savoys are typically found in Victoria and Tasmania, with Jatz generally more popular in NSW and Queensland.
Arnotts’ spokesperson not only verified the difference between the two but also explained to news.com.au how two very similar biscuits came to be in the first place.
The Savoy was launched in 1938 by the Victorian biscuit company Brockhoff Biscuits.
Fourteen years later, in 1952, Jatz was launched by Arnotts.
“Arnott’s joined with [Brockhoff Biscuits] in the 1960s and decided to keep both Savoy and Jatz because consumers in both states were equally passionate about their local brands,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.
So, the debate is settled, and there certainly is a difference between the crackers.
