Coca-Cola Shortage Fears As Factory Workers Strike

Workers at the Coca-Cola factory in Sydney have walked off the job for the second time this month.

The workers are striking over a pay system that leaves some workers earning less than the colleagues, in what the Electrical Trades Union calls a two-tiered system.

Speaking to NewsWire, a Coca-Cola Europacific spokesperson defended the pay scheme saying it was “competitive to the market”.

“Some of our workers from our Northmead site have made the decision to take action today as part of ongoing Enterprise Agreement negotiations,” the spokesperson said.

“We have taken a constructive approach to these negotiations so far, and we will continue to do so.

“We remain confident that the wage rates and employment conditions we have proposed are competitive to the market.

“We greatly value these employees. They have an average tenure close to 15 years and we look after them.”

With the festive season here, Coca-Cola assured customers that “robust” supply plans mean there should be plenty of soft drink on the shelves for fans.
