Amy Schumer Reveals How Internet Hate Lead To Her Cushing’s Syndrome Diagnosis

Amy Schumer has opened up about how online abuse from trolls led to her Cushing’s syndrome diagnosis.

Speaking candidly on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, Schumer spoke of how “a year ago, the Internet really came for me,” making reference to her swollen face.

The 43-year-old explained, “I was getting these steroid injections [for scars], and it gave me this thing called Cushing’s syndrome, which I wouldn’t have known if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard.”

Schumer explained that people began commenting on her “moon face” after a series of photos came out in the press, but at the time, she didn’t take it seriously.

That was, until doctors started expressing concern regarding her appearance in the comments.

“Doctors were chiming in in the comments,” she told Cooper, “And they were like, ‘No, no … something's really up. Your face looks so crazy.’ “

“At first,” Schumer said, she thought, “F--- off,” but after learning that Cushing’s syndrome can be a result of taking steroids for an extended period of time, she realised there may be some validity to the comments being made.

Cushing’s syndrome, which occurs when the stress hormone cortisol remains in the body for too long, is caused by taking steroids for an extended period of time and leads to symptoms including weight gain, acne and distinctive facial swelling that is referred to as “moon face.”

Later in the podcast, Schumer revealed that she had “got rid” of her Cushing symptoms.
