In a TikTok which has racked up more than 13 million views, Alyssa Antoci shared the moment she tried the ‘organic single berry’ with a US$19 price tag, or around $30 Australian dollars.
The absurd berry claims to be the “best-tasting strawberry in the entire world,” imported all the way from Kyoto, and it would want to be for that price.
Antoci is seen opening the plastic container to reveal the berry resting on a small tray, before taking a bite.
“Wow. That’s the best strawberry I’ve had in my life. That’s crazy,” she says.
“I need to eat every last bit of it.”
TikTok viewers absolutely had a field day with this post, pointing out the absurdity of it all.
“There's no hope for us as a society,” one commenter wrote.
“This is so dystopian,” another wrote.
“Watching from district 12,” one joked.
One pondered, “Who else thinks Erewhon is a social experiment to see what some people will spend on?”
While another argued, “no you THINK it’s the best strawberry because you spent $19 on it.”
Either way, most commenters agreed on two things.
“You didn’t influence any of us to spend $19 on one strawberry”.
