Emergency services were called to the centre around 10:30 am on Thursday, with shoppers told to leave immediately. Fire Rescue Victoria confirmed the source of the smoke was an electrical light. Paramedics also attended the scene as a precaution.
The scare comes just a day after a white Toyota Land Cruiser ploughed through the centre at high speed, forcing terrified shoppers to flee.
It marks the third major incident at Northland in just a month, following a violent machete altercation involving ten people that sent the centre into lockdown.
