According to a Reddit thread shared in the "Wedding Shaming" community, one invitee revealed that she, her boyfriend, and her mother all told the bride they'd attend. But when the wedding day arrived, only she showed up.
The boyfriend bowed out due to work, while her mum was too ill to make it.
The bride, however, wasn't buying it.
She'd already locked in her headcount with the caterer, who was charging $50 a plate. That left her footing the bill for two untouched dinners, and possibly more, as others bailed too.
"She told me she was tempted to charge everyone who didn't come $50," the guest wrote, clearly taken aback. "I had no idea she was paying per plate. And like… things happen?"
The bride, apparently hoping to recoup the cash, now wants no-shows to cough up for their absences. While Reddit commenters sympathized with her disappointment, many felt the move was over the top.
"Tacky," wrote one user. "People flying in for your wedding already spent a lot. You don't invoice your guests like it's a business lunch."
