The superstar shared AI images of what looked like the pope cuddling the singer from the side while pressing his nose against her cheek and another with his arm wrapped around her waist.
Madonna, 66, shared the images to her Instagram story on Friday, with the captions "Feels good to be seen" and "Going into the weekend like...".
The images, created by an Instagram user by the name of Rick Dick, attracted fierce backlash.

Some slammed the images as being "disrespectful" and" disturbing", while another said they were "funny and pathetic at the same time".
The images have reignited Madonna's decades-long feud with the Catholic church, which started in 1989 with the release of her music video "Like a Prayer", which the Vatican condemned for what they consider blasphemous and immoral imagery.
Pope John Paul II spoke out against the music video, and the Vatican even tried to boycott the music legend's 1990 Blonde Ambition tour when it came through Italy.
