The study, published in the Journal of Mobile Communication, determined that “K” is the most negatively received response in digital conversations.
According to the study, the single letter response “conveys emotional distance, passive-aggressiveness, or disinterest”, making it particularly cutting in text culture.
“K” even beat out “sure”, or simply being left on read, as the most triggering text, proving that sometimes, the less you say, the worse.
Ultimately, the study emphasized the emotional weight and impact digital communication can have on its receivers, no matter the length.
