Oh the irony as we travel into the second year of limited flights.
You might look at this bag with an unfiltered eye and think ‘Oh no, some designer is about to lose their job during a pandemic,’ but Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, Virgil Abloh has been enormously successful since his appointment in 2019, with LV recording a 20% growth in sales. So if you look at this bag and hear ‘yuck’ in your head, then you just don’t understand what the 1% want to spend the disposable part of their income on.
And the Men’s Fall-Winter 2021 collection where this bag flies out from, is said to be Abloh’s most auto-biographical collection yet, and is an exploration of his African Heritage and what it means to be a Black American creative direction in Europe. And as he told Vogue the line explores the idea of “Tourist vs. Purist… A tourist is someone who’s eager to learn, who wants to see the Eiffel Tower when they come to Paris. The purist is the person who knows everything about everything.”
Yes, some can find fashion a bit… meh. But frankly the crazier it gets the more I like it. Sure it’s out of my bank balance’s range, but if these things are popular enough, knock-offs and rip-offs it will filter down to my price range.
