We’re a three man crew now. My coworker, David, rescuing a cat who took shelter under our car from Hurricane Milton. I’m glad someone walking by told us they heard meowing. pic.twitter.com/9nRFM4PqPf

Photographer David Barcenas and reporter Christopher Salas were inside their car amid a tornado warning in the Fort Myers area of Florida.
The pair were alerted to the cat when a woman banged on their window.
Despite strong winds and heavy rain, Barcenas was quick to jump out of the car and retrieve the cat.
The pair nicknamed the cat “Millie”, but that didn’t stop the internet from dubbing her the “Hurricane Cat.”
#Hurricanecat update: Millie is an adult female cat we found up near FGCU near Ft.Myers FL. I dropped her off at the Blue Pearl Pet Hospital where they confirmed she does not have a microchip. Barcenas took to social media to share that he had dropped her off at a nearby pet hospital, where they confirmed that she did not have a microchip.
“Docs say she does not seem to be feral and is well mannered meaning she may have slipped away from her home,” Barcenas wrote on X.
“She’ll go to Lee County once the storm subsides and if she’s not claimed the adoption process will start and she’ll be moving to D.C. with me.
“I miss her already,” Barcenas added.
