Lilley had been teasing his 984K Instagram followers with clips of the eccentric character adjusting his tie and gyrating on a pink yoga ball. What followed next could heal a nation.
“Mr G is back” appeared simply to close out the reel.
Arguably the most popular yet divisive character, Mr G, served as Summer Height High’s diva drama teacher, known for his tantrums and potty-mouthed outbursts.
The 50-year-old’s cult following was beside themselves when the news was announced last night.
“This is the best news I’ve heard since Celine died,” one user wrote. “The world is healing,” another declared.
One commenter announced, “my depression has left the chat”.
While another pondered, “OMG YES! Will he finally get his arena spectacular?”
One commenter took the words right out of Mr G’s mouth, posing the question: “Where have you been b****?”
The sentiment is unanimous. “Whatever it’s coming and whatever you’re planning YES! YES to it all”.
While loved by many, Lilley and his series have not been without controversy.
In July 2021, it was announced many of his shows would be removed from Netflix in Australia and New Zealand due to culturally insensitive character portrayals.
It’s not yet known in what capacity Mr G will be returning.
