Bombshell Documents Reveal Victorian COVID Curfews Were Not Suggested By Health Officials

Whilst health experts did ultimately support the restriction to reduce the spread of the virus, the 8pm-5am curfew was not their idea.

Public health commander employed by the Department of Health and Human Services, Dr Romanes wrote to former Chief of Health Officer Brett Sutton, stating: “I note that I have been advised by (Department of Justice and Community Safety secretary) Kate Houghton and others that the action of a curfew is a clear action within the State of Disaster and there is a clear desire within government to mirror that within the State of Emergency, however note that the idea of a curfew has not arisen from public health advice in the first instance.”

“In this way, the action of issuing a curfew is a mirror to the State of Disaster and is not occurring on public health advice but is a decision taken by cabinet and announced today, as an important step in the response.”

The documents outlining this information have been fought to be released by Opposition Upper House leader, David Davis, for the last four and a half years.

The government's appeals to keep them private have been refused, and Davis was granted access to the document.

Of the information, Davis has said, “Andrews was calling the shots, but he lied to the Victorian people about acting on health advice when he was not.”

“Andrews was making it up as he went, acting daily in front of the cameras with a big lie behind the imposition of a devastating curfew of more than five million people.”

As this information comes to light, it is anticipated that more pressure will be applied to current Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan, who was one of the seven people who signed off on this curfew.

As it stands, Allan is the only person from the seven-member crisis cabinet who remains in parliament.
