Ariana Grande Explains Close Bond With Cynthia Erivo And How They Ensured Equal Pay For Wicked

Ariana Grande told an audience at a SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conservation that she and Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo carefully reviewed both of their contracts to ensure they were fair.

“When I received my contract, I called Cynthia and suggested we go through it together, point by point,” the Grammy-winning star said.

“I wanted us to have each other’s backs. If she needed something, it became something we both needed.”

Grande added that no social media snippet or press material can accurately capture how deep their friendship is.

“We started fostering this bond long before stepping on set,” Grande added. “One of the achievements I’m proudest of is how we nurtured each other throughout this process.”

In November, unverified rumours made by Reddit and TikTok users claimed Grande received $15 million for playing Glinda while Erivo only received $1 million for playing Elphaba.

However, Universal Pictures released a statement that denied the rumours that the actors were paid differently for their roles.

The production company did not disclose how much Erivo and Grande got paid, but said that they got paid equally.

The film has grossed more than $US 472 million worldwide, and is the ninth highest of 2024, according to Variety.
