Christine Connell recently shared the bizarre story on TikTok, where her video has racked up over 400,000 views.
Connell explained how she developed a persistent sinus infection after a night in a hotel with her then-boyfriend.
She was recovering from ankle surgery and unable to move when he released what she called a “terrible” fart directly into her face.
“I couldn’t breathe,” she recalled. “There’s nothing that even compares to that.” In the years that followed, Connell endured chronic sinus infections, complete with facial pain, congestion, green mucus, and recurrent fevers. Despite rounds of tests, scans, and medical consultations, the cause remained elusive.
Eventually, doctors traced the source of the infection: E. coli—a bacteria typically found in fecal matter.
“E. coli is from poop,” Connell said in a follow-up post, captioned, “I wish I were joking.”
“How does that get in your sinuses unless your boyfriend farts disgustingly and you’re forced to inhale it because you’re immobile after surgery?” she asked.
While E. coli infections are usually linked to contaminated food, water, or surfaces, this case seems to have taken an unorthodox route. Connell was quick to clarify that her ex hadn’t targeted her intentionally.
“He wasn’t trying to fart in my face. He was just getting into bed and, unfortunately, my face was in the path of destruction,” she said.
