Scrubs Reboot In The Works, With Zach Braff Returning To His Iconic Role

ABC has officially confirmed that a reboot of the beloved 2000s medical comedy Scrubs is in early development—and Zach Braff is set to reprise his iconic role as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian.

While the project is still in its early stages, Braff’s return marks a major step forward, as he’s currently the only original cast member confirmed to sign on.

The original cast featured John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox, Donald Faison as Chris Turk, Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa, Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid, Ken Jenkins as Bob Kelso, and Neil Flynn as the unforgettable janitor.

Set at Sacred Heart Hospital and narrated by J.D., the sitcom followed a group of young doctors as they navigated the chaos of hospital life and friendship.

In a recent interview with Variety, Braff described the prospect of returning to Scrubs as “a dream.”

“The idea of getting back together with my friends and doing like 10 or 12 episodes of maybe one or two seasons, and just laughing with everyone? That sounds like a dream,” he said.

Now, that dream is inching closer to reality—with original series creator Bill Lawrence returning as an executive producer.

Speaking with Deadline, Lawrence shared that the vision for Scrubs 2.0 is a blend of revival and reboot, combining familiar fan-favorite characters with a fresh new cast.
