Ryan Reynolds’ Wrexham AFC To Play Friendlies In Australia & NZ

Hollywood-backed Wrexham AFC is set to tour Australia, playing against three A-League teams with matches in Melbourne, Sydney and Wellington.

The Welsh team rose to international prominence after Ryan Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney bought the club in 2021.

A Disney+ documentary called ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ followed the team’s rise through three straight promotions.

The team has just earned a promotion to the Championship, which is one level below the Premier League.

The Red Dragons are set to play Melbourne Victory at Marvel Stadium on July 11, and Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium on July 15, and Wellington Phoenix at Sky Stadium on July 19.

“From the very beginning, we wanted to help make Wrexham a globally recognised team, town and brand,” said Reynolds and McElhenney, the club’s co-chairmen, in a statement.

“We could not be more excited to bring the Red Dragons to Australia and New Zealand, and we are particularly proud that this announcement features neither a Men at Work or Hugh Jackman joke.”
