Millie Bobby Brown Calls Out Journalists And The Media For Publicly Scrutinizing And Bullying Her For Her Appearance

In a post on instagram, Bobby Brown speaks to the “people who are so desperate to tear young women down” - calling some out by name.

The Emmy winning Stranger Things star has condemned journalists for making her “a target” for online bullying.

She does not hesitate to mention writers by name saying “Let’s talk about the articles, the headlines, the people who are so desperate to tear young women down.”

“‘Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown ageing so badly?’ by Lydia Hawken.‘What has Millie Bobby Brown done to her face?’ by John Ely.”

“‘Millie Bobby Brown mistaken for someone’s mom as she guides younger sister Ava through LA’ by Cassie Carpenter. ‘Little Britain’s Matt Lucas takes savage swipe at Millie Bobby Brown’s new “mommy makeover” look’—written by Bethan Edwards”

Bobby Brown comments that Edwards’ article in particular amplifies “an insult rather than questioning why a grown man is mocking a young woman’s appearance.”

Having first appeared on screens at the young age of 10 years old, Millie Bobby Brown discusses how the media is criticizing her appearance as she grows up, expecting her to “still look the way [she] did on Stranger Things Season 1.”

“Disillusioned people can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not theirs.”

“I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman."

She bookends her post stating that the problem is not just impacting her, but all young women growing up under the public eye.

“Let’s do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing.”

The instagram post was quick to fill with supportive comments standing by and agreeing with Bobby Brown’s criticism of the media.

Many commenters highlighted how “proud” they are as she confronts the situation directly and “unapologetically.”

Some Instagram users have taken to the named journalists profiles, commenting on their recent posts in support of Bobby Brown.

One user wrote “Do you call criticising other women journalism? Shame on you.”

Another commented “please stop criticising women when you clearly need some constructive criticism yourself. That is disrespectful and disgusting.”

Millie Bobby Brown is currently on her press tour for the upcoming Netflix feature ‘The Electric State’ and will be starring in the final season of Stranger Things later this year.
