Microsoft To Increase Xbox Prices Worldwide Amid Trump’s Tariff Turmoil

Microsoft has announced that it will increase Xbox console prices worldwide due to “market conditions and the rising cost of development.”

In Australia, the Xbox Series S 512GB has jumped from $300 to $380.

The Series X 1TB (with Blu-ray) has jumped from $500 to $600, while the 1TB Series S has gone from $350 to $430.

The 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Series X has jumped a whopping $130, taking the price to $730.

Controllers and accessories have also seen price increases.

Games are also affected, with new games from Microsoft-owned studios being priced at $US79.00 ($AU 124.88). The company has said the price increases will not hit existing video game titles.

Microsoft said the price increases are due to rising development costs and market conditions.

“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development,” the company said on its website.

“Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.”

The prices come after Donald Trump’s sweeping global tariffs. Although not explicitly mentioned, it is likely that the 145% tariff on China has affected the prices, as Xbox consoles are primarily manufactured in China.

In April, Sony also announced price increases for certain PlayStation 5 models in certain markets.

Nintendo also delayed pre-orders for its Switch 2 console, which debuted just days before Trump’s tariff announcement.
