May 1: What Happened On This Day In History

On this day in history many wonderful and absurd things happened on May 1, including Susie Youssef's day of birth!

So, Susie and Nick Cody took a trip down memory lane.

May 1 was a massive day for nerds like Waleed, with Batman making his comic book debut in 1939.

On this day in 2000, Ridley Scott's Gladiator premiered. It went on to win five Oscars, including Best Actor for Russell 'The Love Muscle' Crowe.

And who doesn't love a cone? An ice cream cone, obviously. They debuted to sweet tooths today at the 1904 World's Fair in St Louis. Playtime and my nightmares would never be the same after Hasbro sold the first Mr Potato Head doll in 1952.

"Penny Black", the world's first adhesive postage stamp, was issued by the UK today in 1840.

In '56, Johnny Cash earned his first number one on the US Country Charts for his hit 'I Walk The Line'.

And in 1930, Aussie cricket great Sir Don Bradman scored 236 in his first first-class innings in England.

Having an Ab Fab birthday today: British icon Joanna Lumley, as well as filmmaker Wes Anderson, yes I am taking meetings, and finally, the biggest birthday regards to my personal hero, American Frontierswoman Calamity Jane, who would have been 173 years old today! Oh, and of course, we can't forget our very own Susie Youssef's birthday, who turns 21 years old today!
