Maximise Your Annual Leave With These Dates For Double The Holidays In 2022!

Ever since the pandemic began (who can even remember when?) the whole world has been in need of a relaxing vacay. So here's how to maximise your annual leave to get an even longer holiday break!

If you didn’t manage to travel in 2021 because of… well borders and the whole pandemic, maybe 2022 is our year!

Here’s how to sneak up to double your annual leave allowance by carefully planning your leave days.

Of course, some states are blessed with more public holidays than others *cough Victoria… cough*, but fortunately the rest of the nation can still enjoy plenty of extra days off.

First up:

Jan-Feb 2022:

Book 24th - 28th off, with the 26th a public holiday and 29th + 30th being the weekend

Scoring you 7 days off for the price of 4 annual leave days.

April

With the Good Friday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day period

Friday the 15th and Monday the 18th are our public holidays and 16th + 17th weekends. Book the 19th - 22nd off and you’ll score 10 days off in a row for the price of 4 annual leave days!

If you’re able to extend it even further, the following week 25th + 30th are also public holidays so if you can take 26th - 9th off you’ll have a whopping 17 days off in a row with just 8 days of annual leave used.

May/June all states except QLD and WA have the Queen’s birthday long weekend, with a public holiday on Monday June 13 (QLD & WA celebrate later in September). So, if you’re based in NSW, Victoria, SA, Tassie, the NT or ACT and book four days of annual leave from Tuesday June 14 through to Friday June 17, you’ll score a nine days off.

If you can’t take all four, try for just the Friday and enjoy a 4-day weekend for just 1 annual leave day!

Bonus, If you’re based in the ACT, there’s also a public holiday on Reconciliation Day, which marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. In 2022, the public holiday falls on Monday May 30th, which means Canberrans who book four days leave between Tuesday May 31 and Friday June 3 can enjoy an extra nine days off.

October

ACT, NSW and SA will celebrate Labour Day on Monday October 3rd. So, time to book four days of annual leave on October 4, 5, 6 and 7 and enjoy a tasty nine days’ holiday from Saturday October 1 through to Monday October 10th!

December/Jan 2023 it’s similar to this year as Christmas and New Year’s next year will fall on weekends again, pushing the public holiday to the following Monday.

Christmas Day’s public holiday will fall on Monday December 27th and the New Year’s Day public holiday will take place on January 2, 2023

So simply book leave for three days in December 2022, 28th, 29th and 30th and score ten days off, courtesy of a weekend, followed by two public holidays back to back, followed by another weekend, and another Monday public holiday.
