Man Files $1 Million Lawsuit Against Whataburger For Putting Onions In His Burger

A man in Texas has some serious beef with Whataburger after receiving onions on his burger, despite requesting they be removed.

Demery Ardell Wilson from Houston in Texas, has claimed that he suffered “serious personal injuries”, for which “he had to seek the care of medical professionals”, after unknowingly consuming onions on his burger order. Wilson has claimed that he is allergic to onions and that while he only had one bite of the burger on July 24, 2024, that was enough to bring about an allergic reaction. The court filing states that he is seeking damages of more than $250,000 but less than $1 million. Whataburger has denied Wilson's allegations in a separate court document filed on May 16 and demanded "strict proof" of his allegations.

It’s not Wilson’s first rodeo when it comes to onion-inspired lawsuits. Back in June 2024, Wilson sued fast-food chain Sonic for including onions on his burger, despite claiming he had requested his order without them. Sonic Drive-In denied Wilson's allegations in a court document filed on May 12 and has said that he should "be required to prove the charges and allegations" against them.
