Kim Kardashian Wears Princess Diana's Infamous Cross Necklace

Kim Kardashian caused a stir after wearing a cross necklace once worn by the late Princess Diana to the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala on Saturday.

Kardashian paired the Attallah Cross with a low-cut gown by Gucci, pearl choker necklaces and a flipped-out bob.

The Attallah Cross was originally made by Garrard in the 1920s, one of Princess Diana's favourite jewellers. The pendant features amethysts, diamonds, and 900 pearls.

Princess Diana first wore the Attallah Cross to a Birthright charity gala in 1987, when it was loaned to her by close friend and former CEO of British luxury brand Asprey, Naim Attallah.

Kardashian purchased the necklace from Sotheby's auction in London in January 2023, paying USD$200,000 (over AUD$303,000) for the iconic piece.

Commenters were split on the styling, voicing their opinions on Vogue's Instagram coverage of the red carpet.

While some dubbed the outfit "vulgar" and "tacky", others celebrated Kim tying the necklace in with her signature style.

Kardashian is no stranger to divisive styling of archival fashion, causing quite a stir when she wore Marilyn Monroe's infamous 'Happy Birthday Mr. President' dress to the 2022 Met Gala.
