Green Day Honoured With Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Green Day will no longer be walking a lonely road on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams after they were honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Fresh off their Coachella performance, band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool were celebrated at their star-unveiling ceremony.

The punk rock band, which formed 38 years ago, has gone on to win five Grammys with a total of 19 nominations.

“This star’s for the weird kids,” Armstrong told the crowd, “the ones who wore eyeliner in gym class, who started garage bands instead of doing homework, who turned American Idiot into a goddamn national anthem.”

In 2015, they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Their star marks the 2,810th star on the Walk of Fame.

"I'm still kind of in shock, so I don't know, it's beautiful. It's, like, so great to see all the fans out here," lead singer Armstrong told ABC7.

"After the ceremony, I went and took a two-hour nap. I was so overwhelmed," added Dirnt, 52. "It was very emotional to some degree, and it’s great for the fans. They can all come here and see something that validates their love for Green Day.”
