The waste was contained in newly laid sewage pipes on a section of road undergoing work on September 24.
The stomach-churning footage shows cars and motorcyclists driving along the busy road in the southern Guangxi region of China. Moments later, the 'poo-cano' erupts, sending an enormous brown cloud of excrement 33ft into the air, drenching the cars below.
While authorities revealed that no one was injured during the ‘poo-cano’, footage showed pedestrians and bike riders being forced to trudge through the faeces-filled street, and drivers were deeply disturbed by the incident.
One driver complained: "I’m drenched in poo, my car is splattered yellow.
"It’s ruined."
Another commented on viral footage of the poo-cano, saying, “You can almost smell this video.”
The burst pipe is reportedly due to engineers conducting a pressure test during the laying of the sewage pipes. However, local authorities are investigating further to prevent a second poo-cano from ever occurring.
Officials were on the scene to conduct a thorough clean-up operation.
