Donald Trump Names Podcaster Dan Bongino As FBI Deputy Director

US President Donald Trump has appointed podcaster and conservative commentator Dan Bongino as deputy director of the FBI.

His appointment, which does not require Senate confirmation, means neither of the top two people running the agency has FBI experience.

Bongino, who has never served in the bureau, is a former NYPD officer and Secret Service agent.

The appointment of the far-right podcaster as a high-ranking marks the first time in the bureau’s history that the position has not been held by a senior agent.

Bongino will serve under newly-confirmed FBI director Kash Patel, a former defence department chief of staff and ex-federal prosecutor.
