The 2003 movie, based on Mary Rodgers's 1972 novel, starred Lohan as Anna Coleman, an angsty teen girl who magically swaps bodies with her uptight mother, Tess Coleman, played by Curtis.
The trailer features the pair visiting a psychic played by Saturday Night Live alum Vanessa Bayer. The psychic says, "Oh, that's interesting. Your lifelines, it's like they've intersected before. You've walked in each other's path.”
The new film has an intergenerational twist, which includes Tess, Anna, Anna’s daughter and her soon-to-be stepdaughter.
Chad Michael Murray is also reprising his role as Jake, Anna’s bad boy love interest in the 2003 film.
Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao will also reprise their roles.
The sequel was confirmed in 2023, but production was halted during the Hollywood writers' strike.
Lohan told US magazine People: "I'm just excited to work with Jamie again and see how much further we can take it.
"Because we talk almost every other day in general, so I think we're going to have a lot of fun with this."
Last year, Curtis told the New York Times she phoned Disney to discuss a sequel after numerous people asked her if it was a possibility.
She said: "As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday.
"Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there's a movie to be made.’"
The film is slated to be released on August 8, 2025.
