Declutter with Peter Walsh: Crowded Garage
A great storage solution is to hang things from the roof and walls. With wall mounted brackets that house different types of hooks, Dylan is able to hang all sorts of equipment and tools – like shovels, hoses, power tools and ladders - on the wall. Even more innovative is to get some overhead hangers, attach them to the roof and you have created a lot of space to long items like skis.
Dave and Philippa have built their dream family home but over the years the garage has filled up with Dave's "sentimental" stuff, and it’s starting to negatively impact his relationship with Philippa. The garage needs some serious decluttering and Peter Walsh is the perfect guy for the job.
Under Peter Walsh’s guidance Dave must overcome his sentimental side if he’s going to reduce the number of items in the garage by about 70% to be able fit the family car inside.
Dave has collected so much stuff that their garage is so crowded they don’t even know everything that’s stored in there anymore.
Peter identifies six major categories of items in the garage: recycle or throw away, wine, Christmas decorations, tools, construction materials, sporting gear and gardening equipment. A lot of these items represent happy memories for Dave, so deciding which ones to throw away takes him on an emotional journey that he didn’t expect.
Previously, the garage was so crowded that Dave and Philippa didn't even know what was stored in there, and they couldn't fit the family car inside. Now, with Peter's help, everything is organised and easy to find with plenty of space for the car.
By arranging one shelving unit with only two shelves and placing a benchtop on top of the waist high shelf, Dylan creates a work bench that automatically fits in to the new garage without any problems.

Dylan gets to work creating more space by moving all the shelving units to the walls and then putting together some flat pack units so the kids have their own area of the garage too.
