House Democrats are demanding Trump’s national security officials take accountability for a security breach, which saw plans for upcoming military strikes in Yemen shared in a group chat including a journalist from a major American magazine. While officials – including the Director of National Intelligence and the Director of the CIA – are insisting that only declassified information was discussed in the group chat, Senators on the Intelligence Committee have said they “fail to understand” how attack sequences and timing wasn’t classified. U.S. President Donald Trump has said his national security adviser is “doing his best” and an apology isn’t necessary – instead taking aim at the journalist in the chat and calling him a “sleazebag”.
