Donald Trump Says Qatar-Gifted Jumbo Jet Is ‘Much Too Big’

The lavish Boeing 747-8 jet, gifted to the United States by the government of Qatar, has officially arrived, but US President Donald Trump says the aircraft is “much too big.”

The aircraft, an extended version of the iconic jumbo jet, is over 18 feet longer than the aging 747-200B currently used as Air Force One. The $400 million Boeing 747-8, dubbed a “flying palace,” features opulent amenities including three lounges, two bedrooms, nine bathrooms, five galleys, and a private office, according to specifications published when it was previously listed for sale.

Speaking during a media Q&A in the Oval Office on Wednesday afternoon, Trump described the jet as a “beautiful, big, magnificent, free airplane for the United States Air Force.” He emphasized that the aircraft was a national asset, not a personal luxury.

“They tried to say, ‘Oh, it’s Trump’s airplane,’” he told reporters. “Oh, yeah, sure. It’s too big—frankly, it’s much too big.”

When asked whether the aircraft will officially replace the current Air Force One, Trump said only that the plane is now in the U.S. and is “being re-fitted to military standard.”
