Port Adelaide Enfield Council’s waste management by-laws state that bins should be placed out after 4pm the night before collection and taken in by midnight the following day.
It’s being reported that multiple residents have received a warning letter from council, while others have copped the $312 fine due to misdemeanour.
A council spokesman has defended their threats and has explained that “residents can be fined for leaving their bins out however that is a last resort and only occurs after repeated warnings.”
"PAE (Port Adelaide Enfield) receives over 200 complaints annually in relation to bins on streets," they said.
In the past five years, the council has said that they’ve only issued four fines for bins not being removed after multiple warnings.
While the $312 fine seems exorbitant to residents, a council spokesperson has said that $312.50 is the expiation amount for any breach of council by-laws.
