Boa Constrictor Threatens Wildlife After Being Spotted On The Loose In Sydney

The snake is believed to be an escaped red-tailed boa constrictor pet, as it was seen at the Sylvania boat ramp in Sydney’s south.

As the exotic reptile is generally found in Brazil and not native to Australia, its escape poses a significant threat to Australian wildlife.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is aware of the loose snake and has warned residents to keep their distance if they spot the reptile.

Residents have been encouraged to take a photo (if it is safe to do so) and contact DPIRD to report any sightings of the constrictor but are warned not to approach the snake.

Reporting any sightings will assist officials in identifying and capturing the snake.

The Boa Constrictor is not venomous but remains a dangerous reptile.
