The highly anticipated fixtures will take place in Melbourne and Canberra, providing fans across the country with another opportunity to support the national team as they continue their preparation on the road to the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™.
Thanks to the support of the Victorian Government through its tourism and major events authority, Visit Victoria, the CommBank Matildas will kick off the series at Marvel Stadium, Melbourne, on Friday 30 May 2025 (8:00pm AEST), taking on one of South America’s strongest teams.
The second match, made possible through a partnership with the ACT Government via Events ACT, will see the CommBank Matildas return to Canberra for the first time since 2022. GIO Stadium will host the series finale on Monday, 2 June 2025 (7:30 PM AEST), bringing elite international women’s football to the nation’s capital.
Football Australia Chief Executive Officer, James Johnson, said: “With just under one year to go until the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™ at home, we are committed to continuing to seek out opponents that present a diversity of styles and footballing cultures to give the CommBank Matildas the opportunity to build and ensure they are peaking come tournament time.
“Argentina is an exciting opponent, having featured at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, and with South America set to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™, these matches will allow us to refine our approach against teams from that region.
“This series would not be possible without the unwavering support of both the Victorian Government and ACT Government. Their commitment enables us to continue growing women’s football and providing Australian fans with unforgettable match-day experiences.
“Together, we’re giving fans the chance to witness top-level international football as we build towards hosting the Women’s Asian Cup next year,” concluded Johnson.
Australia and Argentina have previously faced off twice, including a 3-0 victory for the Matildas in Melbourne during the 2019 Cup of Nations. The upcoming series will add another chapter to this growing rivalry.
Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Matildas back to Melbourne and to give Victorians another opportunity to see one of the most exciting teams in world football.”
“We’re continuing to support incredible events that fans want to witness, that visitors fly here to see and that boost local jobs and businesses.”
ACT Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry, said: “I’m proud to welcome the Matildas back to Canberra and provide another opportunity to showcase our city to the world. We have been supporting the Matildas for a long time and it’s great to host them in what will be an important game against Argentina as they prepare for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026™. All of Canberra’s many Matildas’ fans will be looking forward to it and I encourage everyone to get your tickets early, so you don’t miss out.”
