Peter Helliar

Peter Helliar

Peter Helliar first came to the nation’s attention in 1999 as a cast member of Rove. When the show moved to Network 10 in 2000, Peter went with it, becoming an integral part of the TV Week Logie Award-winning variety show until it wound up at the end of 2009.

In 2003, Peter took on Australian Rules football with After The Game, which went on to become Before The Game in 2004. The following year Peter created Bryan Strauchan, Collingwood rookie and instant superstar.

In 2010 his first feature film, I Love You Too, starring Brendan Cowell, Peter Dinklage, Yvonne Strahovski and Megan Gale and produced by Laura Waters (Summer Heights High), was released.

Writing has always been at the centre of everything Peter has done as a comedian. It’s A Date is a series that Peter produced, wrote and directed to great critical success on ABC Television and was commissioned for a second season, which aired in 2014. The show won the Best Scripted Format Award in the International Format Awards at MIPCOM 2013 in Cannes.

All the while Peter has been working as a stand-up, as well as hosting his own radio shows for Triple M and 2Day FM. Now the TV Week Gold Logie nominee makes Australian’s laugh from his seat on The Project four nights a week, where he has been since 2014.

In 2017, Peter hosted the new quiz show CRAM for Network 10 and in 2018, he starred alongside Lisa McCune in Network 10’s acclaimed comedy series, How To Stay Married, which goes behind the closed doors of a two-point four family who are stuck in a rut. In May 2020, Pete reprised his role as Greg Butler for the second season of How To Stay Married.

Alongside his television commitments with The Project, Pete continues to tour the country with his live stand-up shows each year, touring to sold out houses in Australia and New Zealand, where he makes “the difficult business of being funny look dead easy”.

Best-selling children’s author was added to his impressive list of credits when he released his first kids book, Frankie Fish, in 2017. A further three books in the Frankie Fish series have been released, including Peter’s most recent release, Frankie Fish And The Great Wall Of Chaos.
