Whitney Houston’s ' Will Always Love You' Is Certified Diamond

Platinum is oldddd news, it’s all about Diamond now! The infamous song from Whitney Houston “I Will Always Love You”, actually a cover of Dolly Parton’s 1973 song, took the world by storm and continues to be an anthem.

In order for a record to be certified ‘Diamond’, a single must be 10x Platinum - having had more than 10 million sales or streaming units.

Houston’s rendition of the song was released in 1992, to coincide with her motion picture debut when she starred in ‘The Bodyguard’.

The single spent 14 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, re-entering the charts in 2012 following Houston’s tragic death.

Dolly Parton has always spoken highly of Houston’s cover of her song, speaking on Graham Norton she stated that: “To hear that [her cover] done so well, so beautiful, so big – I had no idea I had written a song that could be that important, and I didn’t, I think she just took it and made it so much more than what it would’ve ever been.”

Whitney now joins an exclusive club alongside iconic artists such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Taylor Swift and Mariah Carey.
