All users will have the option of turning on disappearing messages for all of their new one-on-one chats.
The Meta (AKA Facebook) owned service is giving users four options for their messages to be deleted 24 hours 7 days 90 days…
Or you can just turn them off.
That means, if you send a message and you never want to remember it was sent, you can make sure it's gone forever after 24 hours, which is pretty nifty.
It's only available for one-on-one chats at the moment, but group chats will be added later.
Mark Zuckerberg said on his Facebook page: "Not all messages need to stick around forever."
A WhatsApp blog post added: "There is a certain magic in just sitting down with someone in person, sharing your thoughts in confidence, knowing you are both connecting in private and in that moment.
"The freedom to be honest and vulnerable, knowing that conversation isn't being recorded and stored somewhere forever. Deciding how long a message lasts should be in your hands."
