If you had to compile a list of the most surprising people to end up in your backyard, Tom Cruise would be pretty high up there. Especially if the way he got into your backyard was via helicopter. It’s a pretty unusual situation but it’s one a family in England found themselves in.
The Webb family in Warwickshire, which is a real place and not a county created using a British word generator, were asked if a helicopter could land in their backyard. They were told that the passenger was a “VIP who was running late”. They said yes, because it’s hard to imagine how anti-curiosity you’d have to be to turn down that request.
The helicopter was forced to land in backyard because the nearby Coventry Airport was temporarily closed. When the helicopter landed out the back of the Webb’s place they were gobsmacked when Tom Cruise stepped out.
“I thought it would be kind of cool for kids to see the helicopter land in the garden. He basically arrived and got out and it was like ‘Wow’.” Alison Webb told the BBC.
Cruise is in the UK at the moment filming Mission: Impossible 7. To be honest, finding out that there are now seven Mission: Impossible films is almost as surprising as seeing the star of them hop out of a helicopter in your backyard.
The family were able to get photos with Tom Cruise and he even offered for the kids to take a ride in the helicopter while he was at his meeting. Alison said “It turned out to be an incredible day. It was surreal, I still now can’t believe it happened.”
Once you’ve had Tom Cruise pop by it’s going to be pretty tough for any normal drop-ins to feel excitement. Oh, Aunt Janis has popped round? Yawn. The only way the Webbs can hope to match that is if Vin Diesel lands his own aircraft on their shed.
