It’s time to dust of the old record player, because we have a hot new LP to spin. The 85-years-old Dalai Lama has decided to do something he has never done before: release his very own album. The leader of Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism celebrated his birthday by creating Inner World, a collection of the religious leader’s favourite chants and mantras.
The album was launched via live stream, with drop-ins from some of the biggest names in the Buddhism world, like Richard Gere and Anoushka Shankar. If you are totally bummed you missed out on this enlightened stream, don’t worry you can still watch the whole thing on Youtube.
The Dalai Lama didn’t create the whole musical journey by himself; he did have the help of two musicians from New Zealand: Junelle and Abraham Kunin. The Kunins were in charge of all the recording and composing, while The Dalai Lama providing all the sweet sweet spoken word.
The album is out now, so if you want to get your mindfulness on, this sounds like a great place to start.
