The Beverly Hills Hotel Celebrates Their 110th Birthday With A $2700 Salad

If you happen to be in LA and want to treat yourself… This is an option.

The Beverly Hills Hotel, located on Sunset Boulevard in Beverly Hills, California, is one of the world’s best-known hotels, and it’s turning 110 years old. To celebrate, they have a $2700 salad!

Known for the film stars, rock stars and other celebrities it attracts, the 210 room hotel is an icon of Hollywood. Almost as famous as its own McCarthy salad.

Usually, the famous McCarthy salad would set you back USD$44 (around AUD$63), featuring two types of lettuce, organic chicken, beetroot, egg, cheddar cheese, bacon, tomato and avocado, with a balsamic dressing.

The salad is named after Neil McCarthy, the captain of a local polo team in the 1940s. One day in the Polo Lounge, where the salad is served, Neil requested a very specific list of ingredients for a salad. It was soon named after him, and now the hotel sells around 600 of the salads each week.

From June until December, guests dining in the Polo Lounge will have the opportunity to ‘upgrade’ their McCarthy salad, from the USD$44 classic to the limited-edition USD$1912 salad. Why the price? 1912 was when the hotel opened.

The salad will come with a white-glove service, garnished with gold leaf flakes, lobster, and caviar, paired with a bottle of Dom Pérignon.

While enjoying your fancy salad, you might even spot a celebrity, such as Taylor Swift, Calvin Klein, or our own Lisa Wilkinson.
