Russian Attacks On Ukraine School Kills 21 People

Officials state that Russian artillery has destroyed a school and a community centre in Merefa, near the city of Kharkiv in Ukraine's east.

At least 500 people have been killed in the city of Kharkiv since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, the regional emergency service has said.

The latest in the attacks was a school and community centre in Merefa.

The Kharkiv region, like most other major population centres in eastern Ukraine, has seen heavy bombardment as stalled Russian forces try to advance in the area.

Merefa Mayor Veniamin Sitov said the attack occurred just before dawn on Thursday, killing at least 21 people.

It is unknown at this stage if any children are amongst the victims.
