Spokesperson for the Prime Minister:
“The Government has put in place a number of arrangements to ensure that the Parliament could return, despite changes resulting from the current COVID restrictions.
With Minister Dutton in quarantine courtesy of the Queensland lockdown, Minister Porter was asked to temporarily manage government business in the House, given his previous experience in the role. Minister Dutton will return to the role later this month. Minister Porter is entitled to the presumption of innocence.
The Government is committed to ensuring Parliament continues to meet so it can pass critical legislation required to provide support for individuals and businesses subject to lockdowns and continue the business of parliament.”
