Patron The Ukrainian Jack Russell Is Awarded A Medal For Detecting More Than 200 Russian Explosive Devices

A tiny Jack Russell named Patron, has been awarded a medal by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his efforts in the fight against Russia.

Patron, a Ukrainian Jack Russell has been awarded a medal of honour by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his assistance in the war against Russia.

The tiny dog had been trained to become a bomb-sniffing dog by his owner, Mykhailo Iliev of the Civil Protection Service.

Patron, whose name means "ammo" in Ukrainian, is credited with detecting more than 200 undetonated explosive devices since the beginning of the war in late February, according to Reuters.

Along with his beloved owner, Mykhailo, the pair were both awarded with honours from their nation’s leader, President Zelensky, in a ceremony on Sunday.

In remarks later that day, Zelensky described Patron as "a small but very famous sapper," or military engineer.

"A dog who helps clean our land from the traces of the occupiers, and who also helps teach children mine safety," Zelensky said.

"Due to the Russian invaders, this is now one of the most urgent tasks — to teach children to recognize and avoid explosive objects."
