“Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer,” said a spokesperson from the network.
“We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision however, our current focus is on increasing our investment in original U.K. drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”
It is being shafted for a British series set in the 1930s, ‘All Creatures Great And Small’.
The replacement show is a reboot of a much-loved show from the 1970s and 1980s, about a vet who treats animals across the English countryside.
But What Does This Mean For Neighbours?
While Neighbours is filmed in Australia, most of the productions costs are met by Channel 5, which poached the long-running series from the BBC in a deal worth £300 million in 2008.
After 37 years, the residents of Ramsay Street will be evicted if production company Fremantle can’t find a U.K. broadcaster to foot the cost.
