Most COVID-19 Fines Issued In Victoria Remain Unpaid, Government Will Chase

Most COVID-19 fines in Victoria have remained unpaid, according to new figures.

The Victorian Government is currently chasing thousands of residents and businesses for the fines. The costs range from $200 for failure to wear a mask to $4957 for ‘unlawful gatherings’, according to ABC.

The data, obtained by the broadcaster, shows that around 6% of COVID related fines in 2021 have been paid. In total, 11,362 infringements were issued.

Authorities have already withdrawn 2321 notices, which leaves 8200 outstanding.

A Victorian government spokesperson said “Fines do not expire — and all debt will continue to be collected and enforced.’’
