Launceston Has Been Crowned Australia’s Best Town For 2022

The 2022 award for Australia's best town award has been dished out, crowning Launceston as number 1. So who else made the top 5?

The 'Wotif Aussie Town of the Year' awards rank towns based on various criteria determined from data via Wotif's website.

It includes accommodation affordability, quality, traveller satisfaction and reviews of different towns.

The awards are a great way to encourage Aussies to travel within their own backyards and visit other states instead of heading overseas (which hasn't been particularly easy to do for the past two years!).

The awards are purely for towns instead of cities, which encourages travellers to visit other parts of our states that perhaps they have not considered, particularly regional areas.

Launceston was crowned number one for 2022, with the city boasting favourite travel destinations such as world-class wineries, restaurants and the stunning Cataract Gorge Reserve.

Experts claim it is the country's 'newest foodie hub.'

Despite being one of the oldest towns in the country, the city landscapes are well preserved with gorgeous vintage buildings and architecture.

Victoria took the most spots on the list, with three towns making it to the top 10.

Queensland had two spots, along with New South Wales.

South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania had one town nominated each - of course, Tasmania took the number one spot with Launceston.

The top five cities were:

1- Launceston, TAS

2- Caloundra, QLD

3- Tamworth, NSW

4- Yarra Valley, VIC

5- Adelaide Hills, SA

And the remaining five of the top 10:

  1. Bright, VIC
  2. Hervey Bay, QLD
  3. Halls Gap, VIC
  4. Batemans Bay, NSW
  5. Busselton, WA
