Apple has announced Face ID will be updated in iOS 15.4, which is expected to be released in early March.
Facial recognition to unlock iPhones was first introduced in 2017 when the iPhone X was launched.
Apple Watch users have been able to access their phones while wearing a mask or sunglasses since last year, but the update was not available on phones.
A Universal Control is also expected to be included in the software update.
It will allow people to use the same keyboard and trackpad on multiple iPads and Macs.
