Dolly Parton Shocks Fans By Politely Refusing One Of Music’s Biggest Honours

Earlier this year, Dolly Parton was nominated to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and fans have been left shocked after the star refused the offer.

Dolly Parton, 76, released a statement to social media stating that she would not be accepting her nomination to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Saying she does not believe she has “earned” the honour.

“Even though I am extremely flattered to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,”

“I really do not want the votes split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”

Parton stated she does not believe her music is “rock and roll enough” and would love to make rock and roll music in the future. Though, fans are puzzled as many other artists received nominations that do not fit the ‘rock and roll’ genre, such as Eminem and Kate Bush.

However, others have pointed out that the decision may not be up to Parton as ballots to vote for this year’s Hall of Fame inductees have already been sent out, and past inductees like Todd Rundgren and the Sex Pistols were added to the Hall of Fame despite their protests.
