Parton, one of the biggest stars of country and pop music, first started releasing music back in the 1950s and is among this year’s first-time nominees.
She is joined by 16 other artists and groups, who are being considered for induction into the Cleveland-based institution this year, including rapper Eminem.
Eminem is nominated for the first time as nominees only become eligible 25 years after releasing their first commercial recording.
Other nominees this year include singers Lionel Richie and Dionne Warwick and the British group Duran Duran.
