Ben Simmons Officially Cut Loose From 76ers In James Harden Trade Deal

The Aussie demanded to be traded, refusing to play for his team. Now, after months of trade rumours, a deal has been made official.

25-year-old Australian NBA player, Ben Simmons, has made headlines for months following rumours of an impending trade deal from his Philadelphia team, the 76ers.

Simmons hasn’t stepped foot on the court this season after refusing to suit up for the Sixers, citing mental health reasons. Simmons had demanded to be traded and was prepared to sit out the entire NBA campaign if a deal couldn’t be done. He stated anger that, in his eyes, he had been thrown under the bus by his teammates and coach following last year’s ugly playoffs exit at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks. Simmons was fined millions of dollars for a number of contractual obligations he failed to meet such as missing team activities in the pre-season and then the season proper.

However, fines were not enough to make him wear a Philadelphia jersey again. He wanted out of the team, but the organisation wasn’t prepared to let him go unless it could secure a bonafide superstar in return.

Now their divorce has been made official on the eve of the NBA trade deadline expiring. With the 76ers securing James Harden from the Brooklyn Nets.
